Glentoran 2-2 Crusaders

No more mention of the headlines leading up to the game this past Saturday was ever really needed but the players that were as usual wrote off by opposition fans once again stood up for the shirt and almost came away with the 3 points that could be argued were well deserved. Sadly that wasn’t to be in the end as Crusaders yet again relied on a late, late goal to give them a share of the spoils, there’s a lot to be said for luck but if Crusaders keep relying on it they won’t have much chance of any success in May when it matters most. We took the lead in this game as Curtis Allen celebrated a new 3 year contract with a goal after he forced the Crues into conceding a corner he was on hand to score from close range after a bit of pinball in the 6 yard box. They soon had a chance to equalise after Jonny Addis gave away what looked like a bit of a soft penalty and despite going the right way Elliott Morris couldn’t quite stop the ball from going into bottom corner. That was how the first half ended but the 2nd half would prove to be just as exciting and annoying for both sets of fans. Allen was again on hand as he found space in the box to slot the ball past O’Neill to the background noises of Glentoran fans singing one of their favourite tunes as we Blessed Them All. Unfortuantely though it was the home fans who had the last moment to savour as Richard Clarke fired home from the edge of the box past Elliott Morris who was undoubtedly Man Of The Match with some fantastic saves that sadly seemed to irk some “fans” of the Shore Road side who stooped to spitting at him after the final whistle. Onto the next one Glens and with a bit of Yuletide fortune hopefully we can keep the results coming.
