HIGH 5

Well well well. What a fantastic result and performance by the team on Tuesday night in what is almost always a tough fixture at Shamrock Park. From the first minute we looked to destroy any worries that there would be a negative reaction after the previous game. There was a change of formation that we as fans had called following Saturday and as rare and disastrous as it may be for a manager to listen to fans Gary Haveron recognised that playing 2 strikers could really fire us on to a victory but none of us would have thought that 5-0 was the final score. The first goal arrived not long after Nacho Novo saw a header saved by the Ports keeper as Chris Lavery put in a low cross towards Curtis Allen who slipped the ball past the keeper despite him getting a hand to the shot. Goal number 2 was almost exactly the same but this time it was Ross Redman swinging in a cross that evaded everybody and went beyond the back and found Nacho Novo a few yards inside the box and he fired the ball into the net. The 2nd half started with another Glentoran attack after the Portadown players seemed to all do the mannequin challenge right outside the box thankfully for them it was the keeper who unfroze himself and made another save. The Portadown stopper was at fault for the 3rd as he dropped the ball after catching a high cross and again it was Curtis Allen who took full advantage and added to his tally for the season. The 4th arrived shortly after as Chris Lavery showed his pace as he chased down a long ball and put the opposing defender under pressure and slotted the ball home to cheers of Easy,Easy,Easy. The 5th and final goal came as the ball was took into the box by a Glentoran player who seemingly ghosted past every challenge and Portadown player in his way before pulling it back to the penalty spot where Bobo Smith placed it high into the corner of the net. All in all this was the result and performance that was wanted to build us up for what will be a crucial match on Saturday.
