Glentoran 3-1 Ards

A performance was needed and a performance was what we got although possibly not as complete as we would have liked at times but in the end the 3 points was what we came for and we got them despite a very tough Ards side who look like they’ll continue to improve under the managerial reign of Colin Nixon. In the only change Stephen O’Flynn replaced the suspended Nacho Novo and he started the goalscoring just after 10 minutes or so as he slotted the ball past the Ards keeper. Number 2 wasn’t too long in coming as O’Flynn again found himself in space and fired the ball high past Aaron Hogg after a fine cross from Chris Lavery. The biggest sour note was a injury to James Ferrin who seemed to go over on his ankle and was replaced by Calum Birney. This seemed to unsettle us a bit for the remainder of the half and Ards got their goal as Kevin Bradley swung in a cross come shot that evaded everyone and nestled into the far corner. Another former Glentoran player was next to threaten as Carl McComb cracked the woodwork from a freekick this seemed to spur Ards on for the rest of the half but they couldn’t find that 2nd goal they wanted to level the game. With people heading for the exit late in the 2nd half we wrapped the game up as Curtis Allen passed the ball into the net after good work from Aaron Harmon. All in all a very hard working performance and one that was needed. Onto the next one and another big battle for our position in the league table against Ballinamallard.
